The HYCO Process group works to maintain this position for Air Products by producing state-of-the-art process designs for Steam Methane Reformers. Process Engineers will work with Project Development Engineer, Product, and Project Engineers as well as sales personnel to execute sales estimates, projects, and product development initiatives. This requires a high level of process expertise and desire to be at the front end of the development of projects. The successful candidate will report to the HYCO PST Process Manager and play a key role in achieving these objectives by being responsible and accountable for the following:

(1) Utilizing engineering expertise to lead and execute process and equipment designs for world class hydrogen plants.
(2) Leading technology support requested by sales and product development on the design and operation of hydrogen facilities.
(3) Working closely with other functional groups including commercial, project, mechanical, machinery, systems, and R&D.
(4) Providing technology expertise to the commercial area in support of sales.
(5) Leading performance tests and retrofitting efforts at plant facilities.
(6) Participating in P&ID reviews and Hazops at contractor offices.      

The successful candidate should hold a BS, MS, or PhD degree in Chemical Engineering with at least 5-15 years of experience in chemical engineering, preferably with an emphasis in process design. Strong technical skills and experience in thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid flow, and process simulation using the ASPEN suite of tools are also necessary to be successful. Domestic travel to our contractor’s office in Claremont, California, and other travel to our operating plants in northern and southern California, the Gulf Coast, and Canada, may be required.

He/She will develop a budget for and lead a team of (~ 25) process technologists that conceptualize, develop and implement programs designed to pursue these opportunities. The incumbent is also expected to develop and leverage external relationships as necessary to both minimize the cost of providing reaction expertise to platform clients and ensure that platform capabilities remain current. The Manager is also expected to seek out new opportunities to leverage platform capabilities (such as the RC1’s and the Multiple Reactor Lab) across the enterprise.

The candidate will also serve as a member of intellectual asset management teams to (1) advise on matters of value creation utilizing licensing, (2) advise on selection of the most valuable intellectual property to consider for licensing and (3) advise on strategies for building the patent portfolio with linkage to business strategy.

Qualifications:
* Technical background (Chemistry, Materials or Engineering degree with technical experience; advanced degree preferred)
* Contract negotiations background preferred
* Relationship-building experience (within and between companies)
* Ability to make the complex simple
* Facile in business or technical settings and discussions
* Understanding of patent structure and intellectual property types
* Experience in financial valuation work a plus
* 7+ years in combined technology/commercial roles
* Deal making experience strongly preferred
* Comfort with internal and external communication
* Comfort dealing with uncertainty
