Air Products is looking to hire Process Controls Engineers for Air Products' Global Support Services (GSS) group. Responsibilities include supporting the process control system needs of new and existing Air Separation Units in North America. Other duties include contributing to improvements / optimization of existing assets and meeting organizational goals on safety, cost and performance. This position is part of a four person sub-team focused on this business area.
Qualifications:
* A BS in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical engineering degree is preferred.
* Advanced degree a plus.
* Ideal candidates will have an engineering degree plus 2-10 years engineering experience.
* A Bachelor non-engineering degree with 4-10 years controls experience or an Associate degree in engineering with 6-15 years controls experience will also be considered.
Candidates should have hands-on knowledge of field instrumentation, control valves, analyzers, and control systems (DCS and /or PLC), and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office or similar tools. A fundamental understanding of computer networks is also desirable though not an absolute requirement. Candidate should also possess demonstrated problem-solving skills, and an ability to think systematically.

The successful candidate will work as part of a Process Engineering team responsible for all aspects of the process design for one of several technology areas, namely LASU (large cryogenic air separation plants), Generated Gases (smaller product based air separation plants), LNG (baseload natural gas liquefaction), Electronics (specialty gas and materials production and distribution), or HYCO (Hydrogen, Carbon Monoxide and Syngas plants). The plants designed by these Process teams are sold into the on-site, third party and intercompany markets worldwide.
Responsibilities:
You will be involved in the execution of projects, development of new product lines, the continuous improvement of existing products, performance testing and trouble shooting, management of existing assets and providing support to the business area on new opportunities. You will be expected to assume a high level of responsibility for your work, taking the lead role on small projects or assisting a lead engineer on larger projects.
Main areas of work - Provide Process Engineering support to projects or new products including:
* Process cycle simulations of project design cases (heat and mass balance)
* Preparation of the PFD and input to the P&ID
* Detailed design of Air Products proprietary technology, such as distillation columns, adsorption systems and heat exchangers
* Preparation of duty specifications for process and related equipment
* Preparation of schedules of line sizes, instruments and valves
* Applying engineering standards and procedures
* Support and guide junior engineers and liaise with other engineering disciplines
* Assist as a member of the Hazop team
* Performance testing (from 1 week to 2 months at site)
Provide process support to Sales including:
* Preparation of plant performance information such as utilities consumption, by cycle simulation;
* Rating of product line columns, heat exchangers, adsorbers and vaporisers.
Qualifications:
The candidate will be a graduate (chemical engineering degree or equivalent) with 2-8 years of related experience.
The successful candidate should have the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, while tracking man hours spent and performing to project schedule.
Experience in plant design and process simulation would be beneficial.
Some domestic and international travel for plant troubleshooting/commissioning, and customer support will be required.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will be expected to possess a degree in Chemical Engineering or Control and Instrumentation Engineering or in an equivalent discipline.
He/she will be able to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding and proven track record in the design and implementation of control and instrumentation systems for process plants. It is therefore expected that the candidate will possess 6-10 years of experience gained working in an engineering design or operating organization, preferably within the Process Industry.
Relevant practical site experience, while not essential, would be of benefit.

He/she will play an important role by:
• Merging knowledge of polymers and their applications with characterization to solve problems;
• Partnering with members in technology to understand context of problem;
• Working with other GAS members to broaden his/her problem-solving skills;
• Developing/pioneering state of the art scientific tools relevant to Air Products’ business needs;
• Leading the ongoing maintenance, growth, and development of relevant rheology methodologies for Air Products;
• Leveraging external partnerships in the broader scientific community to extend capabilities;
• Proactively defining future needs for characterization science through technical presentation of capabilities, analytical representative roles on project teams, and on-going communication with key technology groups.
The individual needs to demonstrate good teamwork with other members of their work group; for example, sharing administrative tasks, equipment, knowledge and experience related to testing activities, experimental techniques in lab practices, and EH&S information. This position also requires active participation in the safety programs of the company, including regular attendance at safety meetings and support of the company’s BSP program.
The candidate must:
(1) Maintain and apply polymeric materials characterization know-how, with focus on fluids rheology methods and other tools to uncover materials characterization insight (50%).
(2) Collaborate with the Materials Characterization Team to deliver solutions to business problems involving dynamic mechanical analysis, thermal characterization, and physical testing (25%).
(3) Liaise with Air Products technologists (within research community and GAS) to understand characterization needs and develop problem-solving routes (25%).
The individual is responsible for organizing and managing all the operations related to his/her work responsibilities. Although there are no formal supervisory responsibilities, the ability to influence others within the work team and through project teams is a requirement.

The position is part of the Materials Deposition Applications Group, Materials Research Center, whose mission is to translate new Air Products technology into high value materials that enable our key customers to fabricate flexible and printed electronic devices.
The key responsibility of this position is to support the development and commercialization of solution-processable HIL materials for use in electronics devices such as OLEDs and OPVs.
The candidate requires a good knowledge of device physics and should be able to fabricate experimentation devices to support the evaluation of our materials development and provide guidance on how to enhance performance. The new materials will be typically applied via spin coating and/or ink jet, screen or gravure printing application, so familiarity and comfort with established and/or new and emerging application techniques is required.
The candidate will work closely with our Advanced Materials and/or Electronics commercial development teams, ensuring business sponsorship for the work and clarity on target applications and customers. Success will also require close technical coordination with our synthesis and specialty polymer teams within MRC. This will include coordination on prototype targets, formulating and testing priority, new project development and so on.
This position will also establish and maintain any new device RD capabilities that are needed for the development of solution-processable HIL materials.
Principal Accountabilities:
1. Lead and/or be a key contributor to New Product development projects, plan & manage execution.
2. Use AP work process to capture ideas, develop projects proposals, have projects approved and prioritized.
3. Understand AP Advanced Materials technology that is applicable to Electronics, know how/when to leverage effectively.

Relevant experience with Small Molecule OLEDs produced through the vapor deposition technique, and experience in the commercialization of new offerings, though not required, will be considered a plus. The incumbent should be able to build and maintain meaningful relationships with key customers. They should also be able to work in a multi-functional global team. They should be able to lead at least one technician and demonstrate a commitment to safety, work process, global technology transfer and diversity.
Practical laboratory skills and excellent communication skills, both written and verbal are essential for success in the position. Fluency in Korean, Japanese or Mandarin would be a plus. The position requires travel to partners, customers, education forums and industry events, including both domestic and foreign destinations.
Grade range for this position is 113-115. Lead Scientist [115] will show proficiency in all of the listed accountabilities.
