Title: SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR

Grade Number: S09

SALARY: $21.1202 Per Hour
Department: Information Technology


GENERAL PURPOSE

The System Administrator works within the Infrastructure group of the core IT department to support the enterprise environment. The key responsibility is achieving and maintaining overall technical integrity of Windows server systems. This is accomplished through careful design, implementation, monitoring, tuning, and troubleshooting. The successful candidate will be proficient in written and verbal communication, decision making, systematic problem solving, attention to detail, multitasking ability, and adherence to policies and procedures.

The System Administrator works under the direction of the Network Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


* Document change control processes.
* Maintain hardware and software configuration records.
* Implement operating system enhancements and patches.
* Review system event logs.
* Perform backup and restore operations, Veritas.
* Updates file system permissions.
* Update user access levels.
* Ensure server data integrity.
* Assist in disaster recovery planning.
* Develop new policies/procedures.

* Manage and report time spent on all work activities.
* Exhibit strong communication skills, both written and oral.
* Provide support of the infrastructure.
* Provide Desktop and Help Desk support when necessary, with technologies including Windows 2000/XP and application support.

* Perform any other duties required for the ongoing operation of the IT department.
* Provide on-call support required on a rotational basis.
* Perform related work as may be required.


DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


* Experience in administering and implementing Windows 2000/2003 Server;
* Understanding of network and distributed computing concepts;
* Experience with some or all of the following servers
o Exchange 2003 server
o SQL Server
o IIS Server
o ISA Server
o Terminal Server Services
o Domain Controller / Active Directory Servers
o Systems Management Server
o Sharepoint Portal Server
o Virtual Server
* Understanding of DHCP, TCP/IP, WINS, DFS;
* Understanding of the design of consistent network-wide file system layouts;
* Providing support with Active Directory, and maintenance of Group Policy Objects (GPO's); and
* Ability to write scripts in a particular administrative language.



EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or Business, with three (3) years experience in Windows systems administration; minimum Microsoft Certification Required within 12 months of hire: MCSA.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

This position requires intensive daily use of computers, phone, and other electronic devices.
