Lehigh Valley Hospital: Pulmonary

Division of Pulmonary

Pulmonary/Critical Care Specialist
Enjoy the best of both worlds—collegial private practice with teaching and research opportunities! Pulmonary Associates is seeking a BC/BE critical care/pulmonary specialist to join our 15-member private practice. Our group manages the medical critical care units and has strong clinical input into other critical care units at Lehigh Valley Hospital (LVH). LVH is a tertiary care hospital with a strong academic focus. Due to a major expansion currently underway, LVH will have approximately 1,000 beds by the Spring of 2008. The hospital implemented a tele-intensivist program that allows medical intensivists to manage the care of patients in multiple critical care units from an offsite location. Our group has contracted with the hospital to staff and administratively support the tele-intensivist program. The new associate will join the physicians who staff the tele-intensivist program and participate in traditional ICU coverage. They will also have the opportunity to practice general pulmonary medicine. As a group, we share responsibilities for critical care services, a general pulmonary office and hospital practice, 13-bed sleep lab, a 32-bed LTACH (Long Term Acute Care Hospital) and a freestanding subacute ventilator weaning unit. We have an active interventional bronchoscopy program. We enjoy an exciting busy practice and recognize the importance of ample free time to maintain a balanced lifestyle. Our group offers the benefit of an academic career with supervision of pulmonary fellows, internal medicine residents, and medical students from Penn State/Hershey, the hospital’s academic affiliate. Our practice encourages participation in clinical research and the support of a research coordinator is available. Interest in performing research is highly valued although not mandatory. Lehigh Valley Hospital is the largest hospital in Pennsylvania based on admissions. It is a Level 1 Trauma Center with 4 helicopters and an ICU program that has been recognized for quality. The medical ICU has been rated as one of the ten “best practice” units in the country. The hospital network also has been honored as one of the top 50 “most wired” hospitals in the country (computer assisted physician order entry, bar-coded meds, remote access, etc.), and is listed in U.S. News & World Report for the 11th consecutive year as one of our nation’s best hospitals—this year in 8 clinical areas, including Respiratory Disorders! Additionally, the hospital has been recently recognized in FORTUNE magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” in 2007. The Lehigh Valley offers a blend of suburban and metropolitan lifestyles and a low cost of living. More than 800,000 people make their homes here and enjoy diverse housing options, safe neighborhoods, excellent suburban public schools, 10 colleges and universities and year-round recreational activities. One of the major attractions to the area is the proximity to our metropolitan neighbors - NYC is ninety miles east and Philadelphia is sixty miles south.
