Job Description and Qualifications Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases and chemicals, has an immediate opening for a SENIOR PRINCIPAL DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER at our Corporate Headquarters in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
This position will provide worldwide support to Merchant Gases applications. A primary focus of this position will be the design and fabrication of prototypes for new industrial gas related processes and equipment, primarily around cryogenics. The individual will work closely with a global team to develop and transfer these equipment technologies around the world.
The successful candidate will report to the R&D Applications Manager and will be accountable for activities around equipment design, fabrication, vendor interfacing, cost structure and required safety reviews for new offerings. In addition, this position will be involved with estimation of customer benefits and customer presentations, including attending conferences and preparing publications and patent applications.
Other areas of responsibility include:
- global technology transfer;
- supporting worldwide commercial teams through the implementation of improved equipment technology
- becoming the product owner for new application equipment, including tracking and management of actual costs, project schedule and project scope changes
- supporting the continuous improvement of existing mechanical equipment
- contributing to the ongoing innovation and improvements in particular commercial areas involved.
- documentation of customer feedback for the prototype.
The incumbent will also be responsible for managing projects and their documentation, coordinating appropriate reviews and communicating project status and performance.
Qualifications:
The incumbent should have a degree in Mechanical engineering with 5-10 years experience in project management, mechanical design, solid modeling of parts/assemblies and detailing of engineering drawings. An advanced degree is preferred, but not necessary. The individual should be knowledgeable in the area of heat transfer, use of design software (e.g. Solid Works), P&ID layout and industry standards related to equipment design (ANSI / ASME / CE etc.).
Industrial knowledge in the field of mechanical and/or cryogenic refrigeration would be desirable, particularly around freezing and chilling.
